Ford Mustang Pro... REVEAL!

Big news today from Stern! They released the details of the Mustang Pro model and pictures as well!

Dang, that is a nice looking table! Continuing with the new tradition ushered in by Star Trek Pro, Mustang will be entirely outfitted with LEDs. The news is that Camilo Pardo, the individual who designed the GT-40, actually only did the backglass and cabinet art and not the playfield. Despite that, the artwork is really pretty. The playfield still has the Stern standard of photoshop playfield artwork but what can ya do? It's not a make-or-break for me. What I'm really interested in is the playfield.

Mustang Leak

Sorry but this is not a post to discuss how to fix a leak in yer Mustang so I apologize to all you fellas out there with car problems. NO, I'm here to let you all in on a little news that came out this past weekend.

Stern brought an early prototype of their upcoming release, Ford Mustang, to the NADA Convention in New Orleans this past weekend. A few individuals with the benefits of motion photography were able to capture some footage of this rare beast, THE MUSTANG


I'm not one to speculate much, especially on a video such as this one but the first thought that came to mind is that the art package is going with the standard Stern Photoshop look. That's a damn shame because I was under the impression that Camilo Pardo was going to be the art designer. We'll have to see what Stern has in store.

There is also what people are claiming to be another Wal-Mart toy in the form of the mustang model on the playfield. I understand the gripe when it comes to toys like the ones on X-Men but why build a custom mold and stuff for a car model when you can get some pretty dang good ones at Wal-Mart? Something else I'm thinking is... What if the cars are made to be interchangeable? The table pays tribute to all eras of Mustangs so what if you can switch out the default 'Stang for the model you like the most? That would be pretty neat!

STERN ANNOUNCES FORD MUSTANG PINBALL

WHOOOOOOOOOA! Stern just announced today that their upcoming machine is going to be based on the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang!

 

Stern has partnered with Ford to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the classic Mustang in pinball form! Read the announcement here. There has not been any pictures released of the Mustang pinball table so enjoy some pictures I've taken of Mustangs!

From the sounds of it, the table is going to have custom artwork by Camilo Pardo, the fellow who designed the Ford GT

Not only is this table going to have custom artwork but it's going to be PAINTED! I mean not handpainted on every machine but the art package is going to be painted. Is this a signal that Stern is stepping away from the usual cheap-looking photoshop art packages and going with more handmade artwork? Some signs point to "Yes"! Take a look at Metallica's art package by Dirty Donny and Stern's newest run of AC/DC, "Luci" edition that has new cabinet and backglass artwork.

I think it's safe to say that hand-painted art packages are so much better than the latest output of photoshopped packages.

Beyond the press release, there is not much else information about Stern's Ford Mustang pinball. Rumors are floating about that John Trudeau may be designing the playfield. He did recently join the Stern team so Mustang may end up being his first output at the world's premier pinball manufacturer.

Stern's been on a roll lately with their licenses; we've gotten some big names in rock'n'roll like AC/DC and Metallica and the successor to a Williams classic in the form of Star Trek. Hopefully, we won't have to see any more licensed tables on the same level as Big Buck Hunter Pro...
